Story and Metaphor Builder

Find and shape teaching stories and metaphors.

Mode 1

Help.

Help Mode Menu Tell me about the story, metaphor, parable or meme you would like to create.
Things to think about: What do you want? For example: a short story, a metaphor, an analogy, a traditional-style parable, an everyday example, an image, a meme for a social media post, or a bridge into practice. What is the teaching point? For example: thoughts passing, letting go, beginner’s mind, kindness, patience, calmness, attention, resistance, self-judgement, acceptance or returning to the present. Who is it for? For example: beginners, a workplace group, a one-to-one client, an online group, an experienced class, children, teenagers, carers or teachers. What tone would you like? For example: simple, warm, secular, gentle, poetic, practical, reflective, light-hearted or professional. How will you use it? For example: to open a session, introduce a practice, explain a theme, support reflection, make a humorous point, close a session or respond to a question. Anything I should be careful about? For example: avoid sounding preachy, avoid spiritual language, keep it secular, make it suitable for a workplace group, be trauma-sensitive, avoid cultural appropriation, avoid political messages, or keep it very short.
Here is a sample prompt: “Please create a simple metaphor for a beginner group about thoughts passing through the mind. Keep it secular, gentle and easy to use before we do a short breathing practice.” Now...as you feel more confident...begin to type...

Mode 2

Coach.

Coach Mode Menu I can help you think through how to use a story, metaphor or parable in your mindfulness teaching.
Things to think about: The teaching point What you want people to understand, notice or explore. The type of story or metaphor Whether a simple image, everyday example, short story, parable or visual meme, teaching metaphor would fit best. The audience Who it is for, and what kind of language or imagery will suit them. The tone How to make it simple, warm, secular, gentle, poetic, practical, light-hearted, comedic, or professional. The use in the session Whether it will open the session, introduce a practice, explain a theme, support reflection or close the session. The teaching bridge How to connect the story or metaphor clearly to the mindfulness theme. The bridge into practice How to move from the story into direct experience without unnecessary over-explaining. Safety and care Anything to consider around cultural sensitivity, spiritual language, emotional sensitivity, trauma-sensitivity, overclaiming or avoiding a preachy tone.
Remember...You can ask anything related to coaching.

Mode 3

Science.

Science Mode Menu I can explain the science behind using stories, metaphors and parables in mindfulness teaching in clear, practical language.
You might like to know: Why metaphor helps learning How images can make abstract ideas easier to understand and remember. How stories support insight Why a short story can help people recognise something for themselves rather than it being told directly. Embodied understanding How images such as clouds, rivers, mountains or waves can connect ideas to felt experience. Attention and memory Why people often remember a simple image more easily than a long explanation. Emotional resonance How stories can open reflection gently, without forcing people to share or feel something. Meaning-making Why stories can help people connect mindfulness ideas to everyday life. Audience fit Why the same metaphor may work well for one group and feel confusing, sentimental or inappropriate for another. Cultural sensitivity Why it matters to use traditional stories carefully, avoid false attribution, and not borrow spiritual authority casually. Safety and care Why stories should invite reflection rather than moralise, diagnose, pressurise or over-promise transformation.
Remember...You can ask me anything about science and scientific principles.

Mode 4

Storytelling.

Stories Mode Menu I can show you short teaching stories about skilful use of stories, metaphors and parables in mindfulness teaching.
You might want a story about: A teacher choosing a simple metaphor How a clear image helps a group understand an abstract mindfulness idea. A metaphor that was too clever How a teacher simplifies the image so the teaching lands more naturally. A workplace group needing practical language How a teacher uses an everyday example instead of spiritual or poetic language. A beginner group learning about thoughts How a teacher uses a simple image, such as passing clouds or a radio in another room, to normalise mind-wandering. A compassion theme that felt too sentimental How a teacher uses a grounded story to make kindness feel practical and safe. A story that needed a clearer bridge How a teacher connects the story to the practice without over-explaining. A teacher avoiding cultural carelessness How a teacher chooses an original or clearly framed story rather than borrowing from a tradition without context. A group that reacted differently than expected How a teacher notices the room and adapts the story, tone or teaching point. A story used to close a session How a teacher leaves the group with a simple image they can remember. A teacher learning not to moralise How a story becomes an invitation to reflect, rather than a lesson imposed on the group.
You can choose one of these, or ask for a story about any situation involving stories, metaphors or parables in mindfulness teaching. I’ll tell a short story and draw out the teaching lesson.
